How to configure Outlook 2003 on
Windows XP Pro to access Shared Exchange services.
Escape Key supports the latest technology for
accessing Microsoft Exchange called RPC-over-HTTPS. The primary
benefit of this technology is secure access to our Shared Exchange
services without the need for a VPN connection.
You must
have the following prerequisites in order to use the HTTP/RPC
feature:
- Your workstation is running Windows XP with Service Pack 2
installed (or SP1 with Hotfix Q331320)
- Microsoft Outlook 2003 is installed on your workstation
- Your workstation has been configured to connect to the Internet
Once these prerequisites are met, do the following:
- Go to your Outlook mail settings from Start > Control Panel > Mail.
- Click the ‘Show Profiles’ button and press ‘Add’ for a new profile.
- Specify your Profile Name and click Next to Add a new e-mail account.
- Choose ‘Microsoft Exchange Server’ and go Next.
- Specify your Exchange Server Name on the Next page and type your Exchange Mailbox Username.
- Click ‘More Settings’ button. If prompted for a password, click Cancel.
- Navigate to Connection tab.
- Check ‘Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP’ option and click ‘Exchange Proxy Settings’ button
- Specify Exchange Proxy Settings:
- Type the URL for your Proxy Server in the 'Use this URL to connect to my proxy server for Exchange' field.
- Make sure that both ‘On fast networks...’ and ‘On slow networks...’ options are checked
- Choose ‘Basic Authentication’ as ‘Proxy Authentication settings’
- Press OK, Apply, Next and Finish and OK to save changes.
- Start Outlook.
